Kitchens
Kitchen renovations on the Costa Blanca, designed for light, heat and long summers
The kitchen is often the room that decides how a Mediterranean home is used, from slow lunches to summers with family. CostaVeyra designs and manages the kitchen renovation, coordinating the kitchen studio, building work and installations within one programme, with one point of contact.
Designed, coordinated and managed by CostaVeyra — usually as part of a complete renovation, with one point of contact throughout.

A kitchen renovation on the Costa Blanca is rarely just about cabinets. In most villas and apartments built from the 1970s to the 2000s, the kitchen was a closed, separate room. Today most owners want it connected to the living space, the terrace and the view, which means the project often touches walls, services and flooring well beyond the kitchen itself. That is why CostaVeyra manages it as a whole.
Planning the kitchen
The best starting point is how you actually use the house. A holiday home used by large groups in summer needs a different kitchen from a year-round home for two. Useful questions to settle early:
- Layout. Island, peninsula or galley; where the sink sits in relation to the window; whether a separate pantry or utility room is possible.
- Connection outdoors. If there is a terrace or outdoor kitchen, a short, level route from inside to outside makes a real difference.
- Ventilation. Extraction needs a route to the exterior. In apartments, the community may restrict new openings on the façade.
- Materials. Natural limestone and oak are beautiful but need care; sintered stone and quartz are more resistant to staining and heat. Choose with maintenance in mind, especially for a rental or second home.
- Light. Combine good task lighting over worktops with softer ambient light for evenings.
We fix the design and appliance list before the works are priced. The kitchen studio, building work and installations are then all priced against the same drawings, so the budget is reliable from the start.
Sequencing the works
A typical sequence is demolition, any structural work, first-fix plumbing and electrics, plastering and screeding, flooring, then cabinetry, worktop templating and installation, and finally appliances and finishing. Stone worktops are templated once the cabinets are in, which adds one to three weeks before they are fitted.
Where a kitchen studio and a contractor work side by side, responsibilities need to be clear: who prepares walls and floors to the studio’s tolerances, who connects appliances, and who resolves defects. Our project team defines and coordinates these interfaces. Where more than one contractor works on site, health and safety coordination is required, and we arrange it.
Kitchens are also where budget decisions matter most. Our article on where to spend a renovation budget covers the trade-offs between cabinetry, worktops and appliances.
How CostaVeyra manages your kitchen renovation
We define the brief, design direction and budget with you, coordinate the kitchen studio, contractors and installers, monitor progress and quality on site, report to you with photos and video, and handle snagging and handover.
Our speciality is complete property renovations, so the kitchen is usually one part of a wider, fully managed project. See our pages on apartment renovations, interior architecture and design and villa renovation on the Costa Blanca.
Who is involved
Your project team, coordinated by CostaVeyra.
Kitchen designer or studio
Works with our project team on layout, cabinetry, appliances and finishes, then manufactures and installs the furniture to the agreed drawings; CostaVeyra coordinates their work with the rest of the site.
Contractor
Handles demolition, any wall removal, plastering, flooring and tiling, preparing walls and floors to the kitchen studio's tolerances within the programme CostaVeyra sets.
Electrician and plumber
Adapt circuits, sockets, water supply and drainage to the new layout and certify the installation, sequenced by our project team around the cabinetry.
Architect or arquitecto técnico
Brought in by CostaVeyra when a load-bearing wall is removed or the structure is affected, to sign the technical documentation the licence requires.
Before you decide
Considerations.
Structural walls
Opening a kitchen to the living room is the most common request. If the wall is load-bearing, a technical project and usually a licencia de obra mayor are needed. Without structural changes, a declaración responsable is generally enough. The procedure is confirmed with the ayuntamiento.
Materials for the climate
Strong sun can fade some lacquers and timber near large windows, and salt air affects metal handles and fittings close to the sea. We specify each finish with coastal conditions in mind.
Indicative budget
As a broad guide for the Costa Blanca in 2026, a kitchen renovation costs roughly €25,000–€80,000+, excluding VAT, fees and taxes, depending on size, cabinetry, worktops, appliances and building work. Only a survey and an itemised budget give reliable figures.
Lead times
Works typically take 4–10 weeks, but made-to-measure cabinetry and stone worktops have their own lead times. Spanish August holidays slow suppliers, so orders are placed early if you want the kitchen ready for summer.
Questions owners ask
Do I need a licence to renovate my kitchen in Spain?
A kitchen renovation without structural changes is usually processed by a declaración responsable or comunicación previa rather than a full licence. Removing a load-bearing wall normally requires a technical project and a licencia de obra mayor. The procedure varies by municipality and is confirmed with the ayuntamiento.
Should I buy the kitchen separately from the building work?
There is no need. CostaVeyra coordinates the kitchen studio and the building work within one programme, so the drawings, tolerances and sequence are agreed in advance and you deal with one point of contact.
Can the reduced 10% VAT rate apply to a kitchen renovation?
It can apply to renovation works on a home used privately by an individual, completed at least two years earlier, where the materials supplied by the contractor do not exceed 40% of the taxable base. A kitchen with expensive furniture may not meet that condition. It is confirmed case by case with a tax adviser.
Can CostaVeyra manage the kitchen as part of a complete renovation?
Yes, and that is how most kitchens are best delivered. The kitchen usually affects walls, flooring and installations in the rooms around it, so we plan and manage it as one part of the whole renovation.
